What is security software?
Security software is designed to protect computers from malicious programs such as viruses and malware. It is important to have security software installed on your computer to protect it. That said, when not configured properly, security software can cause interaction problems with your WildTangent games.
Problems such as blocked free sessions of games, error messages, failed downloads, games closing unexpectedly, saved data "disappearing", and a whole manner of other things.
Security software continuously updates. Weekly, monthly, quarterly - all the time. And for most users it happens in the background, so you don't even realize; until you start to get notifications when you didn't before.
Is there only one type of security software?
There are many software programs available to you and could be installed on your computer. And you do have at least one on your PC.
You have a Firewall - either Windows or one you installed after you bought your PC (don't forget that there can be firewalls on your home's modem and router too!).
There are extensions, or add-ons, to the internet browser (Ghostery and Privacy Badger are two examples).
Browser security settings (Internet Explorer, Edge, and even Google Chrome give you the ability to change the security setting of your browser).
And then there are security software programs installed on the computer (like Windows Defender, Norton, and AVG).
All of these are great safety features - but from time to time they can stop you from being able to enjoy your games!
What can happen?
WildTangent software is sometimes erroneously flagged as unsafe by security software. Rest assured, the WildTangent Games Application, and the games you download are 100% safe.
The Games App is complex, and when you unlock games, or use WildCoins, and watch an ad, your computer is communicating with WildTangent. To resolve the issue of false positives, you will want to add WildTangent to your security software's "safe" or "exclusion" list. This is merely telling the security software that it is okay for the computer to talk to WildTangent.
If after you add WildTangent to the approved list, you continue to experience false positives, you may want to contact the manufacturer(s) of the security program(s) on your computer. Most security programs have a way to report the issue so they can update their software in order to prevent these messages from appearing.
These will be vague warnings. They could let you know that WildTangent or the game cannot connect to the server, or that Windows has detected a problem. Any time the security software blocks an aspect of the game; from launching, unlocking, using WildCoins, or crashing with a random error message; is an indicator that the security software needs to be configured to allow WildTangent to run.
What can you do?
DO NOT TURN OFF THE SECURITY SOFTWARE.
We can't stress that enough. Turning it off, on most Windows PCs, will switch on the backup, Windows Security Software which is even more restrictive. Plus, security software is good. So turning it off = bad.
You need to configure the security software to accept/approve/allow WildTangent. Remember, you may have more than one security software program.
We've found that including the following to the “Allowed/Exclusion” list works best:
- WildTangent Games
- even the game name
NOTE: If the WildTangent Games App came preinstalled on your HP computer, you will want to ALSO add the following:
- HP Games
- WildTangent for HP
But how do I configure my security software?
Due to the sheer amount of security programs available today, it is not possible for WildTangent to tell you how to do this. You will want to contact the security software company directly (experts) to get help in configuring them properly.

AVG ** ADDED 06/06/2018** AVG / AVAST seems to be blocking WildTangent games from downloading. While some customers have stated that disabling the WebSheild feature allows games to download and install, we instead recommend you to reach out to AVG/AVAST to let them know what is happening.
